This water procession starts from the Attuvela kadavu, two kilometers away from the temple.


The festival is celebrated in the month of march - april.The attuvela lasts two days and during the time , beautifully decorated canoes, carrying huge replica of the Elankavu temple sail down the moovattupuzha waters accompanied by a huge number of well decorated small canoes and traditional kathakali .


During the festival time, the procession of beautifully and colourfully decorated small canoes glide down the waters.This is accompanied by temple percussion music.


The two day festival is celebrated to welcome goddess of kodungallur who comes to visit her sister goddess Bhagavathy of Elankavu.The kodungallur bhagavathy is taken to visit her sister once in year and the festival celebrates the occasion in a special way.


Attu vela festival which happens in a tiny village called Vadayar near vaikom.The village has an anicient temple where the presiding deity , the goddess of Elankavu bhagavathy.Accroding to the legend, the goddess is the sister of the goddess of Kodungallur bhagavathy.
